Konuşma Konuları

  • Influencer Marketing
  • Influencer İletişimi
  • Love and Hate Marketing

Günümüzde dijitalleşme her yere nüfuz etti.

SOFT POWER

Soft Power is actually a term of politics. Strong states, despite the fact that they are capable of pursuing their interests by force, may choose to avoid war – because the game’s not worth the candle – and choose to ‘’show their teeth but not bite’’, use ‘’Soft Power’’; and they achieve their goals…

Why should not this concept of politics be applicable to business live, personal life or social relations, used to make them stronger and better? Çağlar Çabuk, the author of the book Soft Power, deals with this concept with practical examples from daily life.

LEADERSHIP & SOFT POWER

One of the most important functions of a leader is the management of relations and balancing the expectations of stakeholders. Soft Power, which is also a term of politics, is an approach frequently used by leaders in politics, public diplomacy and international relations.

Çağlar Çabuk, the author of the book Soft Power, deals with how to use soft power in leadership processes. She helps leaders become even stronger with the approach of soft power.

MOBBING (PSYCHOLOGICAL HARRASSMENT AT THE WORKPLACE)

Mobbing refers to any incident of maltreatment, threat, violence or contempt implied on employees “intentionally, constantly and systematically” by their superiors, colleagues or lower level staff. Despite many lawsuits in favor of victims, mobbing is still a big threat for potential victims and employers.

Çağlar Çabuk, the author of the book All We Have Is Mobbing, handles the issues of detecting mobbing, taking measures and coming up with solutions as well as its psychological effects and legal consequences.

COACHING AND MENTORSHIP

In contemporary business life; improving, sharing and maintaining knowledge is as important as technology, expertise, infrastructure or competition. Coaching and mentorship are among the best ways to ensure this and they help the employees, managers and the business in many ways including motivation, efficiency and performance.

Çağlar Çabuk, the author of the book Coaching and 4th Dimension, has been a leader in definition and official acceptance of coaching standards and competence frame in Turkey trough Professional Competence Institution (MYK) and the official gazette. She has been involved in professional coaching and mentorship programs in universities and companies. She works on how to use coaching and mentorship in an integral and constructive approach to help employees use their full potential.

Can Fuat
Gürlesel

Strategist, Chairman of Strategic Research Institute

Biography

“The search for a multilateral world is taking place against the background of the global crisis and the threat of chaos, whilst discussions about the end of history and the clash of civilisations are still ongoing. Welcome to a new century.”

Global power shifts and the search for a multilateral balance

After the end of the Cold War, the USA sought to implement unilateral foreign policies appropriate to the unipolar world. However, attempts to establish a new and consistent global balance in terms of policy, military and economy have not been successful. Over the last years, substantial losses and shifts in global power have occurred alongside the substantial effects of the global economic crisis. The uncertainty as to what kind of a balance this loss of power would result in means that chaos theories are of great use. According to Dr. Gürlesel, at the moment the USA is trying to avoid adopting multilateral policies based on realism and to establish a new multilateral balance by undertaking a leading role. Global and regional actors in the multilateral balance, its institutional structure, its rules and, above all, its centre of gravity, in other words its geopolitical area, will take become clearer in the coming era. Dr. Gürlesel says that Turkey will also be affected by the multilateral balance of the new era and Turkey may, for the first time, become a regional actor in the establishment of the new balance. However, it will only be possible to draw on Turkey’s potential as a regional actor by creating a healthy balance between idealism and realism.

Cem
Mansur

Musician, Founding Conductor, National Youth Symphony Orchestra

Biography

“A relationship similar to that between an orchestra and a conductor can be found anywhere involving a concern for making good use of time and particularly in disciplines where people manage and are managed.”

Orchestra conductors make for good leaders

Cem Mansur opposes the perception of music as a decoration of life. He is whole-heartedly convinced that a person who has been educated in classical music will have a totally transformed perception of life. He believes that making music as a group is an outstanding experience of teamwork and is an ideal example for a democracy. “Music is a miraculous way of bringing about peace and democracy. Playing in an orchestra affects your way of thinking. You get to learn about history and geography. Making music as a group teaches you how to live within a real democracy. It also inculcates in the participants a culture of bonding with and not excluding “the other”.” Being an orchestra conductor requires you to be a good leader. Mansur thinks that “a person deserves to be a leader if they can recognize the potential of the group of people under their management and who are able to motivate that group, to earn this leadership. This is sometimes a question of technical knowledge, sometimes about motivating and stimulating. In fact, someone who can combine these two can be a good orchestral conductor. It is difficult to make a definitive distinction such as ‘people are born leaders’ or ‘people become leaders.’ Both are possible. Circumstances can also turn a person into a leader. The things that happen to you in life, the things you have to do, can bring forward a leadership ability that the individual themselves may be unaware of”.

Who is Cem Mansur?

Cem Mansur studied music in London, graduating from City University and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, which awarded him the Ricordi Prize. He later studied at the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute. He was the conductor of the Istanbul State Opera between 1981 and 1989. He was the Principal Conductor of the City of Oxford Orchestra from 1989 until 1997. He was appointed as the resident conductor of Akbank Chamber Orchestra in 1998. Cem Mansur is the honorary head of Ipswich Choral Society, the second oldest choir in England, and founding conductor of the National Youth Symphony Orchestra.

CAN ANYONE PLAY?

DO WE KNOW HOW TO USE OUR BODY LANGUAGE?

Remembering our as children, we can see that playing is just not that difficult.

Playing is at the focus of every aspect of our lives. It is not always on the stage or in front of a camera. Sometimes we find ourselves “playing”, intentionally or otherwise. Just ask yourself, are there not so many things you say pretending to believe them when you actually don’t? In business life, social interactions, family relations, friendships… Whatever we do, we are bound to play. First, for the sake of courtesy… The day started badly for you, you have a headache, you argued with your lover; you arrive at the office and your friend or manager says “good morning”. No matter what you feel, your response will be a fake smile and a “good morning”. You can play well or you can play badly. If your manager sees the trouble in that smile, then you are in trouble. Two times more of the same and it will not be a good impression for you.

This is where the body language matters. The difference between playing and faking is not just the tone of the voice but also the use of body language. What matters in the most significant play of life is that you should not make others see. If the people can see that you play, you have failed… In other words, you play badly. Persuading people on authenticity is not easy. If even you don’t believe in what you say, it is very easy to be noticed. Clichés like “good question” or “that is just what I think” are in the past. Sentences and tones are very important. Sports don’t help with a good use of body language. Each attitude, each move, each mimic means something. So, how do we play well?

IS THERE TIME FOR LOVE AS A MOTIVATION?

I asked a dear young friend of mine, “Do you flirt with your wife?” He replied with a little surprise, “I never have time for that.” “So sad” I thought. I encouraged him, “Please, always find time for this.” If business life interrupts even the flirt at home, we either do not know how to “flirt”, which brings along many other problems; or we don’t feel the need, which is an even bigger problem. Those who focus solely on business cannot succeed in the long term. Focusing and concentrating on a single aspect of life is never the key to success.

Living is an art. Never miss the little pleasures which make business more enjoyable. You cannot work with a long face and a curse. You need your creativity in every aspect of your life. The more “endorphin” we secrete, the more dynamic we are. Love is when happiness peaks. I know that this is not always possible, and not for everyone. But let’s think this way; love is a state of soul, so we are not in love with someone. First we fall in love, then comes someone… Even when there is nobody, it’s that mood of love that matters. This is what will motivate you and peak your “endorphin” level. The secret of success is in the details. It’s those details that motivate us and make us effective.

USING TIME, USING LIFE

How do we use our lives? Limited to a period of time which may never be lived again. These two dynamics coexist. Every individual has a unique but somewhat similar approach to the concepts of time and life. Our lives somehow connect…

Grasping the use of life and time itself “takes some time.” It also takes some time to realize this and say “time passes so quickly.” While we try not to lose control of our lives, we should also remember that we are in interaction with other lives we need. Whatever we do, we can make a mess out of our lives if we do not know how to use time. Not just ours, also the lives of people we work or live with…

A key issue in business life is information sharing and management. Sharing and managing time is equally important. How can we manage business life without wasting time? How can we prevent wasting time? How is that possible?

Remember that “Money is time, time is money!”

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Every touch in our life is an interaction. Whatever you do, communicating well will bring you success, happiness, joy, strength and healthy relations. Do you think that a little care and patience, a positive approach and a strong language will do?

Observe the highest ethical values and always give topmost priority to your credibility. Have a grip on developments in multimedia.”

Media changes, journalism stays the same

Dennis Redmont is a communications acrobat and a media wizard. He started his career as a correspondent and advanced to the senior management at the Associated Press (AP). He is also a professional who has served as senior executive in many private and publicly held companies in Europe and the USA. He is an experienced reporter and newscaster. He is a communications professional who has reported from over 80 countries during his career. He covered, photographed and reported on a wide variety of political and economic events ranging from dictatorships in Latin America to guerrilla warfare, and from the crises in the Middle East to the Papal elections.

Redmont says that the techniques of journalism have changed but not its essence. Though he says that advertisers and investors, basically the “business-management” side of journalism, have more influence now, for him, the struggle remains unchanged. He thinks that the principles of journalism have not changed since he graduated from college: “be the first to reach the news, but get the right news. Write as fast as you can. Observe the highest ethical values and always give topmost priority to your credibility. Have a grip on developments in multimedia.”

Redmont is an important witness to the evolution that the media have undergone. He closely monitors developments in Europe and the USA, and talks about all forms of media from individual journalism to social networks, and from news sharing to smartphones. He discusses topics such as the power of new media and their human impact, the personalisation of media, and inadequate control and ethics. Redmont also moderates panels and conferences on communication and media. He also offers media relations training in five languages. After quitting active journalism, Redmont has worked as a communications consultant for international corporations. As a university lecturer on media, Redmont splits his time between Italy and Turkey.

Ediz
Hun

Ecologist, Instructor Okan University / Actor

Biography

“Common sense and science will help us in creating environmentally friendly producers and consumers in order to enhance the welfare and quality of life of our people.”

Population growth needs to be more firmly controlled

Ediz Hun is one of the golden names of Turkish cinema. He was one of the most well-known faces of an era. When he saw cinema reaching a deadlock, he turned to a different career path. He built his future around tackling environmental issues, the number one topic for the world today. Upon returning to Turkey as a successful scientist, he even went into politics for the sake of the environment. “In today’s system of global values and the contemporary approach to management, there are three basic elements: democratisation, human rights, and environmental protection law focusing on human-induced environmental pollution. All three are issues that societies must resolve at once”, says Hun.

The world’s population is currently growing by 300,000-350,000 people, or 10 football stadiums, a day. Hun believes that environmental issues can be resolved by controlling population growth. “Istanbul has a population of 15-16 million. One person produces four to seven litres of waste a day depending on their age and eating habits. Assuming an average of four litres, Istanbul produces 64 million litres of waste a day. If we do not control population growth, it will be impossible to manage environmental issues and the resulting global climate change.”

Ediz Hun is a speaker in high demand – he gives 35-40 lectures annually and the topics vary according to demand. He keeps his audiences spell-bound on stage with his active and vibrant presentations. His presentations are between 45-55 minutes in length and end with a QA section.

Who is Ediz Hun?

Ediz Hun holds a degree in biology and environmental science from Oslo and Trondheim Universities in Norway. He became a lecturer at Marmara University in 1985. He served as a consultant to the Ministry of the Environment and as Istanbul Provincial Director of the Environment between 1991 and 1993. He became a member of parliament for the ANAP (the Motherland Party) in the 1999 elections. He Served as the Chairman of the Environmental Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
