The pace of life

Prof. Haluk Gürgen is a communications professional who has long carried out communication campaigns for a large number of private and public institutions. Prof. Gürgen describes the qualities of contemporary marketing as follows: “the pace of life is a key factor in triggering social change. We strive to exist within this fast cycle of life, identifying and fulfilling our needs faster every day, and consuming more rapidly to discover and consume new needs, again rapidly. Therefore, the key to successful marketing is to create brands that can cope with this dizzying speed. This means creating strong brands. Corporate brands are created through the correct management of corporate communication and reputation. The need to feed off the strength of corporate brands they belong to becomes more and more important in the creation and development of strong product brands.”

Who is Haluk Gürgen?

Prof. Haluk Gürgen has been serving as the dean of the Faculty of Communications at Bahçesehir University since 2006. Gürgen has conducted communication projects for the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Customs, the Directorate General for the Status of Woman, Vakıfbank, Mesa, Coskunöz Holding and Erciyas Biracılık. He also offers training sessions to multinationals, Turkish organisations and banks.

Biography

Award-winning former journalist Emma Robson has over 30 years of experience of working in media and communications and takes a keen interest in health, technology and sus-tainability issues. Through Media Wise, her own company, Emma has helped dozens of scientists, experts and executives to explain complexity with powerful concision and to deliver key messages that resonate with their target audiences.

Clients have included Akzo Nobel, Astra Zeneca, Eli Lilly, Johnson & Johnson (Janssen), Philips, Unilever and the European Food Safety Agency. Trained as a journalist at Reuters news agency, Emma worked as a reporter and editor in London, Amster-dam and New York, where she specialised in water, sanitation and health as a roving feature writer for the UN Development Programme. In television, Emma worked as reporter/producer in London for the business and finance programmes of BBC and Reuters Television, as well as for Dutch public and commercial television. Earlier, Emma was correspondent in Amsterdam for Reuters and set up the first Dutch bureau for Bloomberg News. A native English speaker, Emma has near-na-tive fluency in Dutch, French, Italian and Spanish.

She holds an MA and BA in Modern Languages from Cambridge University, a Certificate in Professional Coaching from Henley Business School and a Cambridge TEFL English language teacher certificate.

Sanver, Dr.

Political Communication Strategist

Biography

Gulfem Saydan Sanver has a Master’s degree and PhD on political communication from the University of Panthéon Sorbonne/ France.

Ms. Sanver is the author of two books, both published in France. “A Comparative Study of the Election Campaigns in Turkey” was published in 2013 and her second book “Interpretative Communities: Socio-economic and cultural impacts on the perception” was published in 2014.

Directing strategies and campaigns, she works with members of the parliament and local mayors. Sanver has been awarded with Pollie Award by American Association of Political Consultants at the Pollie Awards 2015, with Polaris Awards by European Association of Political Consultants in 2017 and was elected to “100 Class of 2017” (The Hundred most influential political professionals of the year 2017) by Com Pol magazine located in Washington DC .

Biography

Celal Seçkin is a graduate of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. He worked as an engineer and manager in PTT ARLA (TELETAŞ) and Siemens for 17 years.

He has undergone a variety of business excellence, management and leadership training programmes and has attended many national and international symposia, congresses and forums in the field of quality and organisational excellence as speaker, moderator and organiser

He worked at Turkish Society for Quality (KalDer) in 1998-2000, as Manager of the National Quality Awards Program and four years at the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) in Oct 2000-Dec 2004, as Manager of the European Quality Awards Program (now known as EFQM Excellence Award) and worked as part of the development team for the EFQM recognition scheme “EFQM Levels of Excellence”, revision of EFQM Model and development of EFQM training programs.

As a qualified EFQM Excellence Assessment Team leader, he has participated and led numerous organisational excellence assessments both in public and private sectors in many countries. As a member of the EFQM Faculty, he has trained many hundreds of assessors in many countries.

Celal Seçkin is founder of Seçkin Consulting and Training Co. Ltd, a Turkey-based company in management consultancy covering organisational performance management, internal/external assessments, leadership, change management, strategic planning, process management, continuous improvement and teamwork.

He took part as an instructor in Professional certification programs jointly organised by KalDer and Bosphorus, Sabancı and Okan Universities.

He is highly motivated for continuous learning and passionate for working in multi-cultural environments and believes that the EFQM Excellence Approach is one of the key aspects that will contribute to a better future for human being.
